The Rif forms one of Morocco’s major mountain ranges, alongside the famous Atlas Mountains. As you ascend through the hills, you’ll pass charming villages where Jebala tribes cultivate olive trees, figs, grapes, and cereals — living in their distinctive, whitewashed homes.
Take a short break to admire panoramic views over a beautiful dam, a perfect opportunity to enjoy a cup of Moroccan tea or coffee while soaking in the peaceful rural atmosphere.
Upon arrival in Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl” of Morocco, your guided tour of the Medina begins.
Right beside the main square stands the historic Kasbah, built in the 15th century by the Berber leader Moulay Ali Ben Rashid to defend the town against Spanish and Portuguese invasions. In the 17th century, Sultan Moulay Ismail transformed it into a royal residence, and later, during the Spanish Protectorate (1912–1956), it served as a prison.
Be inspired by the unique architecture of the Great Mosque, and wander through the labyrinth of blue-painted streets leading to the Ras El-Ma spring — a lively spot where local women wash clothes and carpets in the clear mountain water while children play nearby.
As you make your way back to the main square along different routes, you’ll pass through bustling souks filled with small, colorful shops offering handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs at affordable prices. For a truly local experience, enjoy a delicious meal in the square, watching the rhythm of daily life unfold around you.
In the late afternoon, you’ll return to Tangier through the Rif Mountains, arriving in time to catch your ferry or be dropped off comfortably at your accommodation in Tangier.
